If your driver’s license is issued in an EU country, Norway, Lichenstein, Iceland or the Faroes, you do not need to exchange it for a Danish one. If your license is valid for more than 15 years you can use it for 2 years before you change it. However, if you wish to apply for a Danish drivers license you may do so.
You must meet up in person at a Borger Service (Inner City, Sundby or Bispebjerg, it doesn’t matter) – open Mon-Wed: 10.00-17.00, Thurs: 9.00-18.00, Fri: 10.00-15.00.
You have to bring:
– Your national driver’s license, if the original is lost, a confirmation of the existing is necessary, not older than 1 month.
– A valid passport
– A passport picture (you can have it taken there for DKK95 for 2)
– If you are not a Nordic citizen, you must bring your residence permit
– 280DKK (the license is not free) – payment only in cash or with Dankort or Visadankort.
No test to take.
You will receive a temporary drivers license valid for 2 or 3 months and you will receive your license directly in your mailbox home.
It is valid for 15 years, then you have to renew it, mostly to update the picture.
edit 10/30/2014 : If you need and international driver license, go back to the Borgerservice Center with your danish license, an ID pic, and avec votre permis danois, 25 DKK, it will be done in less than 5 minutes !
