Michaels (Craft Store)

A. painted a cup for me, and sent me to “Michaels” to buy a sealer (so I (re)discovered the Mod Podge, by the way). Malheureux ! I had just told him about my new obsession for Tiny Houses (thank you HGTV and “Tiny House, Big Living”)…. and I discovered this:

This is only A PART of the scrapbooking department…

🙀💕💕💕

The next day, I received an enthusiastic letter from Mr. about the idea of building us our Tiny House… but I had to tell him that I was going to need at least a 3-room apartment now!

Postcard from Savannah

Savannah is located approximately 2 hours drive from Jacksonville, in Georgia. We went with the family for a day.
Once there, we took the Trolley (tour) Bus because it is the best way mean of transportation to see a maximum of places in one day. My English is not bad and I’m not too bad accustomed to the Southern accent (I actually understand WELL my man!) but this time the guide spoke pretty fast and it was a lot of information simultaneously. I was slightly confused between finding where to look and put the details together.

The advantage is that you can get on and off the trolley as many times as you want during the day, and you can even call for them to pick you up at some extra stops.
Worried that the cathedral would be later closed for the day, the trolley driver waited for us 15 minutes in front of it to allow us to visit.

The bus left us in the area of the City Market, it was perfect to reach the edge of the river and find a restaurant for lunch.

The Waving Girl

The Olympic flame

It’s a little cute town where I could see myself living, the center being occupied by more pedestrians than cars.
Unfortunately we chose the hottest day (our last available Saturday), it was 100 ° F and it soon became unbearable to walk in the afternoon.

Savannah is a city that welcomes more and more film shoots, the most famous probably being Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Forrest Gump, Cape Fear), Something to talk about or The Giftand The Legend of Bagger Vance (ut I haven’t seen that one so I don’t know how much of the city you see in it). The problem is that most iconic elements of those films had to be moved to avoid being stolen, like the Bird Girl statue from Midnight… or the bench from Forrest Gump.

Alabama Road Trip

Logically, I did not only gain a husband, but a whole new family, including a nephew. Said nephew lives in Alabama, and was the reason for a road trip (twice in a week) to pick him up for a week long Florida vacation. The first time I went to Jacksonville, I took a room in a downtown hotel. I had read the reviews online and most people were indignant about the lack of pool (though it was stated on the hotel page)… this is because in fact, in the South, it is almost mandatory for hotels (and one quickly understands why). I was able to enjoy the pools of the friends’ hotels, and the one of the Super 8 in Troy, Alabama… and I must say that I appreciate quite a lot!

Five Points

Five Points is a small “vintage” neighborhood of Jacksonville, with its distinctive restaurants and boutiques. It is also in Five Points that I usually refill with original cards for my special one.

You can find a list of the shops here.

The shop 5 Points Antiques is quite fun:

You can also take a break and observe the squirrels (they are all over Jacksonville!) at Riverside Park.

The Cummer Museum (see previous article) is located near this neighborhood.

Kennedy Space Center

Two weeks ago I went with my family visit the Kennedy Space Center, we spent the day there but left before the closing down because of a long way back home but I think that by staying there from 9 am to 6 pm there is possibility to almost do/see everything.

We did not take the tour bus and even though I saw everywhere that it is absolutely recommended, as it drops you off at the Apollo/Saturn V Center, where you can apparently witness the launch of Apollo or touch a real piece of moonstone . The center is not accessible in any other way and so it is the only thing we didn’t see.

After your bus tour, take a tour at Nature and Technology and in the Rocket Garden, guided tours are organized throughout the day.

We then went to see a movie at IMAX Theaters, “A Beautiful Planet”, narrated by Jennifer Lawrence, which shows the daily life of astronauts in the space station as well as images of Earth they capture and the events they attend. It was beautiful and very informative, one of my favorite moments of the day.

Space Shuttle Atlantis.

You can then do a take-off simulation: Shuttle Launch Experience®.

Several animations and exhibitions are to be seen everywhere.

In the last room there are also several simulators and the “Forever Remembered” booth, in memory of the astronauts who were killed in the Challenger (1986) and Colombia (2003), with some of their favorite personal items.

Astronaut encounter, a little movie commented by the astronaut present that day to share his experience and his anecdotes. Possibility to ask him questions and have a photo taken with him at the end. We met John Blaha.

Journey To Mars: Explorers Wanted, a short film/live presentation about NASA’s current events and its interactive exhibits.

Great (and huge) souvenirs shop, “Space Shop”, where I bought a nice mug to my special one and one for myself.
