Mon plaid à moi !

Before I left for Denmark I started “Mon plaid à moi !”, to learn new knitting points while being easily able to take a break from this project to make other ones.
Unfortunately the break extended over 2 years since I didn’t have my equipment with me at the beginning and later, after buying makeshift needles at Tiger (I miss Tiger so much guys!) I was more busy knitting me stuff for my tribal dances outfits (and make tassels, for which I admit no needles are needed for this) and mittens, and even more mittens (Danish winter!!). Since I came back from the United States – wow I travel so much (NO) – I got back into it thoroughly and finally I get somewhere, plus I really feel a big progress so I am happy! I eventually made it to half of 90 squares \o/

Notice the aesthetic of my labelling (and the photo itself :p – sorry)

I think that the technical notebook is very well done (but it’s a French book), and the explanations for the squares are very handy for the first patterns, however one must stay focused because I spotted several little mistakes (or misprints).

Cummer Museum

I went back to Cummer Museum (with my mother but it was her first time of course) and good plan, as a student (officially, I’m not anymore, but my card is valid until 2017!) my entry was free.
Every Tuesday evening (16h-21h), the entry is also free for all.

As we arrived in the morning at the museum and we wanted to embark on a late afternoon shopping in San Marco, we had lunch at the museum café (open all day but closes one hour before the museum itself) and truthfully, I still drool over thinking about this salad. I think it was all in the seasoning but we absolutely enjoyed it – this is also why my plate is already well underway on the photo, I forgot and I rarely am so thrown on a plate!

And this time I saw the gardens! They were closed when I came at night in December. It’s beautiful! At the edge of the river… I want a garden like that one day (well except that I will live in a rotten shack in the forest in the mountains with my husband but it’s not the subject).

Merrill Museum House

When leaving the Veterans memorial wall on the way to the supermarket, we came across this house by chance.

It’s actually a museum. It belonged to James E. Merrill who did a lot for Jacksonville’s economy when he started an iron works there in 1875.
You have to book a tour and you only make a donation in the end. The ladies who take care of the tour saw us outside and had no one that day so we had a private visit. This museum has just reopened and is still pretty unknown. Unfortunately I didn’t take one picture of the inside but it is worth seeing (and listening to the ladies’ story about the Merrill family)!

Veterans Memorial Wall

[Wikipedia] The Veterans Memorial Wall is located at 1145 East Adams Street, adjacent to the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. The quarter-million dollar monument was dedicated in November, 1995 and serves as a tribute to more than 1,500 Jacksonville area American war heroes. The outdoor memorial was promoted as “the largest of its kind” and “the only wall that honors veterans from all six [service] branches” (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine). The 65 foot-long black granite monument contains the names of servicemen and women from World War I through Operation Desert Storm and the current war on terrorism. In front of the wall stands a torch with an eternal flame.

We went on a very hot day and it took us over 40 minutes to finally reach the wall. There was absolutely nothing around, not a single place to drink something (yes, we did forget to bring a drink with us – three days there and you’ll understand why they always have a drink in their hands) or even find a bit of shade. Just the stadium.
