Cummer Museum

I went back to Cummer Museum (with my mother but it was her first time of course) and good plan, as a student (officially, I’m not anymore, but my card is valid until 2017!) my entry was free.
Every Tuesday evening (16h-21h), the entry is also free for all.

As we arrived in the morning at the museum and we wanted to embark on a late afternoon shopping in San Marco, we had lunch at the museum café (open all day but closes one hour before the museum itself) and truthfully, I still drool over thinking about this salad. I think it was all in the seasoning but we absolutely enjoyed it – this is also why my plate is already well underway on the photo, I forgot and I rarely am so thrown on a plate!

And this time I saw the gardens! They were closed when I came at night in December. It’s beautiful! At the edge of the river… I want a garden like that one day (well except that I will live in a rotten shack in the forest in the mountains with my husband but it’s not the subject).

Merrill Museum House

When leaving the Veterans memorial wall on the way to the supermarket, we came across this house by chance.

It’s actually a museum. It belonged to James E. Merrill who did a lot for Jacksonville’s economy when he started an iron works there in 1875.
You have to book a tour and you only make a donation in the end. The ladies who take care of the tour saw us outside and had no one that day so we had a private visit. This museum has just reopened and is still pretty unknown. Unfortunately I didn’t take one picture of the inside but it is worth seeing (and listening to the ladies’ story about the Merrill family)!

Jacksonville Beach – Seafood restaurants

Like last time, a tiny list of restaurants to try if you, this time in Jacksonville Beach.

Joe’s Crab Shack
The advantage is that it is SUPER well placed, closer to the beach would be ON the beach, so it’s convenient + super nice view.
Order a Shark Bite cocktail and enjoy the great atmosphere, the servers even do a small dance from time to time, hard not to be cheerful after that.

I recommend their crab buckets. In addition you will get a personalized bib, check out the hashtag #letsgetcrackin on Instagram, it’s fun 😉
Here are ours:

We went back, this time I took a place and there was at least 3 meals in it (don’t forget to ask for a box to take your leftovers home) !

Billy’s Boathouse Grill
The best salmon I’ve ever eaten O_o – and nice view too 😉

Jacksonville – restaurants

You would have understood, my pen pal’s mother and her husband are taking good care of me. They took me to several restaurants, here are 4 nice addresses:

⋅ We ate at LongHorn Steakhouse on December 24th (I don’t know which restaurant exactly since there are several in Jax.), we all left with Doggy Bags, the plates are generous.
By the way, I very often left with my box of leftovers for an extra meal in these US restaurants.

⋅ Cracker Barrel. With a shop that sells candles as well as furniture, clothes, cuddly toys or humorous stuff.

⋅ Clark’s Fish Camp – a place with a crazy decoration, even more during Christmas time.
My pen pal also likes this place.

Him, he is alive.

⋅ Sandollar Restaurant & Marina. After crossing the river by ferry, I ate there with my pen pal’s step-father, very nice view 🙂.

The waitresses (never had a waiter!) are super nice, don’t forget that tips are “mandatory” but of your choice, so they try to make you rather happy 😉.

MOSH (Museum of Science & History)

Last Friday I went to visit the MOSH (Museum of Science & History).
A museum that is quite random since it contains a section on the human body (fairly disgusting by the way), a section on marine mammals, a section on energies, some animals (birds and reptiles), a garden, a history section (Jacksonville and North Florida – the section I enjoyed the most), and a planetarium + temporary exhibits (it was on wrecks and pirates when I went there).
The entrance is normally $ 10 and the Planetarium screenings at $ 5 (you have to buy your ticket at the entrance too) but on Friday everything is half the price!

« Have your picture taken with Neil! »

I almost got it right haha.
