Personal Blog
You would have understood, my pen pal’s mother and her husband are taking good care of me. They took me to several restaurants, here are 4 nice addresses:
⋅ We ate at LongHorn Steakhouse on December 24th (I don’t know which restaurant exactly since there are several in Jax.), we all left with Doggy Bags, the plates are generous.
By the way, I very often left with my box of leftovers for an extra meal in these US restaurants.
⋅ Cracker Barrel. With a shop that sells candles as well as furniture, clothes, cuddly toys or humorous stuff.
⋅ Clark’s Fish Camp – a place with a crazy decoration, even more during Christmas time.
My pen pal also likes this place.
Him, he is alive.
⋅ Sandollar Restaurant & Marina. After crossing the river by ferry, I ate there with my pen pal’s step-father, very nice view 🙂.
The waitresses (never had a waiter!) are super nice, don’t forget that tips are “mandatory” but of your choice, so they try to make you rather happy 😉.
After walking everywhere it was possible to walk to in Jacksonville, I wanted to test the public transportation. I had already taken the Water Taxi with my pen pal’s mother on the first Friday, I will probably take the bus to the airport on the last day, and I have a Skyway station right next to my hotel. I don’t think I’ll take the trolley because I already took its itinerary on foot.
The Skyway is cute, as its name suggests it, it is in the air so it gives another perspective. Since it was a financial failure (it does not go very far so few people used it), it’s free today! It may not go very far, but it saves a walk of 15 or 30 minutes to cross the river by the bridges! The day I needed to go shopping in the rain, I was glad to have this option.
However, it only works from 6 am to 9 pm during the week and only in case of special events on Saturday and Sunday! You should not be in a hurry either because it takes up to 6 or 7 minutes (maybe even longer) between 2 trains.
Last Friday I went to visit the MOSH (Museum of Science & History).
A museum that is quite random since it contains a section on the human body (fairly disgusting by the way), a section on marine mammals, a section on energies, some animals (birds and reptiles), a garden, a history section (Jacksonville and North Florida – the section I enjoyed the most), and a planetarium + temporary exhibits (it was on wrecks and pirates when I went there).
The entrance is normally $ 10 and the Planetarium screenings at $ 5 (you have to buy your ticket at the entrance too) but on Friday everything is half the price!
« Have your picture taken with Neil! »
I almost got it right haha.
As the weather was super nice (almost too hot for me and I even had to buy sunscreen!) the first week, I explored the city on foot and went almost everywhere where it was possible to walk from my hotel.
I still have to see the “five-points” neighborhood that I’ll see when I go to the Cummer Museum (probably tomorrow).
Here are photos of my walks: (#winter)
Pour lui (le proprio des Jacksonville Jaguars) la vie est assez cool.
