Completely different vibe at “Grandma’s.” I think the name (and the following photos) says it all.


The prices are a little high, I paid a little more than forty crowns for a Chai Latte (Vs less than 30 in most cafes) and 25 DKK for a scone. But it is the Nyhavn/Amalienborg district (just two steps from Marmor Kirken), the tourists area by excellence, by the way Grandma also sells souvenirs!

Regular prices but absurd and bizarre atmosphere, I’ll let you judge. We went there late a Monday evening so we can’t say there were a lot of people. However, two Danes approached us saying something like “wow this is nice,” I suspected they were not talking about me but I was sufficiently confused by the fact that DANES HAVE SPOKEN TO ME! They were actually interested in my tattoo, they threw a look and discussed two minutes. Note to self: only wear tank tops all winter to make friends!

To sum-up, in 1962 five Viking ships were discovered in Roskilde Fjord, 5 different types. After some physics and scientific magic, they were removed, restored, and a museum was built just for them. So actually in the museum there is not lot of things to see, just these boats, a film of about ten minutes on the discovery, a temporary bonus exhibition, and some activities to keep adults and children busy (if you can go when the weather is good it’s better).

Ok like that, it does not look like much.
